Intro
Atomic App
Atomic App is a tool testing your code changes before deploying them to the cluster. Atomic App was designed to overcome Tilt’s limitations:
- Tilt’s instability leads to wasted developer time
- Compatibility issues across local environments (Docker versions, macOS versions, local tools)
- Resource limitations tied to local machine power
- Overhead in maintaining Tilt configurations on individual machines, separate to our clusters.
Advantages:
- Atomic application in a dev environment (simulates production closer)
- Runs on a shared, robust EKS cluster, autoscaled, independent of developer hardware.
- Provides consistency in environment configuration across systems, it doesnt care about the developer’s local environment.
architecture
the Atomic App spins up 2 argocd applications:
1. vega-#unique_id
containing the vega application services:
- frontend
- gateway
- endpoints
- automations
- trino-coordination (with sidecars)
- trino-worker (with sidecars)
- Ingress (provides a way to access the services from outside the cluster, using teleport)
- elasticsearch*
- fakeapi*
- localstack*
- postgres*
- sentinelmock*
- temporal*
- splunk*
